The initial plans were to give all children in New Zealand Peace Medals to celebrate the end of WWI, but the government in April 1919 dropped this plan and announced the money should be spent on more important matters.
In Wellington on Monday 21st July 1919, 5000 children gathered outside parliament building to heavy rain flying there little union jacks and trying to listen to speeches which for the most part were inaudible due to the heavy rain and singpatriotic songs.
Other activity’s included both Educational and entertainment events including sports and games, picture shows and lunches and teas.
