AR Denarius B.C. 102, Rome mint.

Obverse: CAEICIAN, bust of Ceres facing left, G in upper field.

Reverse. Yoke of oxen advancing left, ploughing with control letter 'r ' above.

L . CASSIUS  in exergue. referring to the moneyer Lucius Cassius.

The two yoked oxen on the reverse may allude to the family's history or foundation of a temple of Ceres, possibly by an ancestor of the moneyer. A denarius was a significant silver coin in Roman currency and was roughly equivalent to a day's wage for a skilled laborer or soldier.
