Description

New Zealand First Bi-Metal coin - Fifty Cents 1994.

White/Yellow Gold Proof.

British Royal Mint, only 500 struck.

Obverse: Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by R.D. Maklouf of England.

Reverse: H.M.S. Endeavour, by designer James Berry.

Composition: 

Inner ring 22 carat gold.

Outer ring 9 carat white gold.

Weight: 22.5gms.

Diameter: 31.75mm.

Edge treatment: Alternating plain and milled.

The yellow gold has affected the colour of the white gold, mainly on the reverse, this is very common with this issue.

Captain James Cook took command of H.M.S. Endeavour in May 1768. Soon after he set sail for Tahiti and his first voyage of discovery. It was during this journey that Cook spent six months charting and mapping the coastline of New Zealand.
