Description

Akarnana. Thyrrheion.

AR Stater, circa 350 - 300 B.C.

The ancient city of Akarania is the modern city of Thyrio, near Vonitsa in the northwestern part of Aetolia-Acarnania on the Greek mainland.

Obverse: Pegasos flying left, below Θ.

Reverse: Head of Athena to left, wearing Corinthian helmet; before, Θ; behind Y and Boeotian shield. 

ΘY is usual on the obverse (Pegasos), and scarce on the reverse.

Silver: 7.90g, 21mm max, 3mm thick.
