Colonial Kangaroo Token

Description

Australian Trademens Halfpenny Token 1854/5 aVF.

The reverse of these tokens seem to be poorly struck in the centre, there are two types this one is R94-A84.

Crombie, Clapperton and Findlay, Drapers at 41 West Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.

This interesting token was struck by Reginald Scaife at the Kangaroo Office mint in either 1854 or early 1855, (some catalogues list this token as minted by WJ Taylor?).

The three businessmen moved to new premises at 11 Collins street in 1856 and went on to own three shops.

Mr Crombie was from Glasgow and returned to live in England; Mr Crombie also from Glasgow moved to live in New Zealand.
