Antiochus I Soter ('Savior') 294-261 B.C.

Seleucia on the Tigri. The Tigris river in Iraq, 20 kilometres south of modern day Baghdad, is the site of Seleucia-on-the-Trigris. Its inception was part of the Hellenistic colonialization of the Middle East, the result of Alexander the Great's campaigns.

AR Tetradrachm circa 265-264 B.C.

Silver, 28.00mm, 17.02g.

Obverse: Diademed head of Antiochus I right. 

Legend: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ

Reverse: Apollo seated left, on  omphalos, testing arrow held in his right hand and resting his left on bow set on the ground; to the left monogram AP, in the right field monogram OXY.
