Ancient Greek.

City Kibyria in Phrygia.

AR Drachm 166-84 B.C.

Phrygia, in western central Anatolia (Asia Minor).

Kibyra or Cibyra was an Ancient Greek city near the modern town of Gölhisar, in modern day Turkey.

Obverse: Head of hero Kibras to right, wearing crested Attic helmet right.

Reverse: Kibyras charging right on horseback with couched spear in right hand; to upper left, palm frond; below the horse, 10 ΚΙΒΥΡΑΤΩΝ.

Silver in excellent grade, 2.72g, 17mm.

Grade: Struck from slightly worn obverse die, otherwise, very clear image on the reverse, good very fine.

The Odeon or music theatre in Kibyra (see photos) is from the later Roman period, it is in remarkable condition and had many uses, apart from music it was also a theatre, and a court.
