Obverse: G III R. (George Regina 3rd). Countermark: Ewer. The ewer (a small water pitcher symbol) was used as a civic or guild stamp—most notably by the Worshipful Company of Founders—during the late 17th and 18th centuries.
Brass, 22mm.
Merchants, bankers, and assayers used these small brass weights with a balance scale to check that a gold Guinea coin had not been clipped, shaved, or worn below its legal weight.
