1 troy oz Silver Proof.
Limited Edition Number 0319
The coin depicts the darkest day in New Zealand's First World War campaign. The New Zealand Division suffered nearly 850 fatal casualties in a few hours on 12 October 1917, when it took part in a botched attack on strong German defences at Passchendaele in Belgium. This was the greatest loss of life in a single event in New Zealand's post 1840 history. The bodies of most of the men killed that day were never recovered.
