The Cotton and Bombazine manufacturing Industry in the Norwich area started in 1784 and grew to be was highly profitable, there were 30 manufacturing houses in the area, exports exceeded 1 million stirling per year at a time when the entire national manufacturers exports in the year was 14 million stirling.
