Description

Campaign medal awarded for military service 1792 - 1815.

Established by decree of Emperor Napoleaon III to recognise participation in the campaigns led by Emperor Napoeon I.

The first French Campaign Medal.

Campaigns: French revolutionary Wars & Napoleonic Wars.

Awarded to French & foreign soldiers.

Last awarded in 1870, 305,000 French soldiers & 55,000 foreigners.

Obverse: Napoleon Bonaparte laureate bust to the right within wreath, above a crown .

Legend: NAPOLEON I  EMPEROR

Reverse reads: CAMPAGNES DE 1792   A  1815. 

A SES COMPAGNONS DE GLOIRE SA DERNIERE PENSEE ST. HELENE 5 MAI 1821

Translation: TO HIS COMPANIONS IN GLORY HIS LAST THOUGHT ST. HELENE MAY 5, 1821

Bronze, 5.1 cm x 3.1 cm.

Grade: Has been cleaned with some residue remaining (can be cleaned off), the original ribbon is faded and worn.
