Commemorative Half Dollar 1893.

The first commemorative coin issue 1892-1893, (two dates issued).

Obverse: Bust of Columbus.

Designed by Olin Levi Warner.

Legend: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * COLUMBIAN HALF DOLLAR *

Reverse: A representation  of Columbus's flagship the Santa Maria above two hemispheres.

Engraver: George T. Morgan.

These coins were sold for $1 each at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago during 1893. A great many remained unsold and a substantial quantity was later released for circulation at face value or melted down.

Mintage: 1,550,000 (1893).

Catalogue: KM# 117.

Silver, 0.900, 12.50g (actual 12.47g), Silver 0.3617 oz. ASW, 30.6mm.

Grade: VF-gVF, lightly cleaned.
