Description

King George III Reign, 1760-1820.

Last Coinage, 1816-20.

1818 LIX Crown.

Obverse: Laureate bust to the right.

Legend: GEORGIUS III D: G: BRITANIARUM REX F: D: 1818, (George the Third by the Grace of God King of the Britains Defender of the Faith).

Engraver Benedetto Pistrucci 1784-1855, his name is under the king's bust, PISTRUCCI.

Reverse: St. George slaying the dragon within Garter.

Legend: HONI · SOIT · QUI · MAL · Y · PENSE, (Shame on he who thinks evil of it).
Edge inscribed in latin: DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI LIX.

Royal Mint London, Tower Hill, mintage 155,000 which includes 1818 LVIII, the lowest mintage in this short lived series.
