ROMAN REPUBLIC.

L Cassius Caeicianus.

AR Denarius, Rome mint, 102B.C.

Obverse: Bust of Ceres left, wreathed with corn-ears; behind, control-letter.
Part of moneyer mark counterclockwise with AE ligatured and AN in monogram.

Legend: CAEICIAN.

Reverse: Yoke of two oxen left; above, control-letter.
Part of moneyer mark in exergue.

Legend:  L•CASSI. Cassia was a Roman family of great antiquity.

Silver, 3.88 grams, 15-19 max mm.

aVF, excellent tone, struck off center.

Cassius was one of the assassins of Julius Caesar, he withdrew to Syria after the dictator's death and later joined forces with Brutus. He committed suicide during the battle pf philippi in 42 B.C.
